4 TRAGEDIES IN AN ACT
SPOT | 2023
4 TRAGEDIES IN AN ACT is a commercial film created for the presentation of the Gran Teatre del Liceu’s opera season, intertwining the climactic moments of four major operas: Antony and Cleopatra, Eugene Onegin, Carmen, and Turandot.
Four stories that come to life within the walls of the opera house, where tragedy, desire, betrayal and revenge unfold through the theatrical language of the Liceu.
“They say it’s no longer time for great stories.
You no longer avenge past crimes.
You no longer fight duels at dawn.
You no longer believe in the love of a rebellious bird.
Poison no longer quenches your thirst for immortality.”

Tailoring and Garment Alterations
Most of the costumes for Four Tragedies in an Act, the annual presentation of the opera season at the Gran Teatre del Liceu, were rented or sourced. However, some of the deconstructed tailoring for Eugene Onegin section was made in-house.
The aim was to suggest a period silhouette while preserving selected historical elements. A cape was constructed from scratch and added to a thrifted oversized blazer. The second tailored coat was cut to evoke the shape of a period tailcoat. Both garments were distressed with wax to create an icy surface, helping to unify the costumes visually
